YIM Connection Issues

I’ve not been able to connect to Yahoo Instant Messenger using my default instant messaging client Miranda IM. I’ve tried updating the software, uninstalling it, and reinstalling it. I’ve tried downloading and installing a new IM multi protocol IM client called Pidgin, and although it worked with a little bit of tweaking, I can’t get over how creepy their mascot is. When I saw that their mascot was prominently placed on the upper left hand corner of the client window, I immediately uninstalled it.

The only thing that works for me now is the web based IM client Meebo. It’s a pain a pain in the ass to remember to look in the Firefox tab that the client is open in, though. I also tend to close it out accidentally when I am done surfing the internet. I much prefer a stand alone client.

It seems that I’m not the only one having these issues, and that others using different clients are having the same problem as well. One of the solutions that worked for someone on the Miranda IM forums was to convert back to the old Yahoo plugin, but I have looked everywhere for that on their website and couldn’t find it.

I’ve been using Miranda IM for years because it’s the smallest and most lightweight IM client there is. In my book, smaller and plainer is better. I’ve decided that I’m going to be stubborn and not switch to another client. I may be on Meebo a few times a day, but I think that I’ll be using IM less frequently until this issue is resolved. If anyone wants to hit me up on YIM, contact me through Twitter or other means first.

That’s too bad. I know how annoying it can be to have your IM cut out on you. I’m sure you’ve considered it already, but I use Digsby. Yes, it’s a resource hog, and your post suggests you might not be crazy about the UI, but it does cover a lot of bases.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jon. I’ll look in to it regardless. I might just get over my stubbornness on this issue eventually. XD
